American Heart Association
St. Valentine, honored in February as the patron saint of lovers, is a good reason to recognize the organ most closely associated with lovers, the heart. February is American Heart Month when everyone is encouraged to focus on cardiovascular health. As the designated month of heart health, the staff at Midland Memorial Hospital is excited to celebrate the 100th year of the American Heart Association. Just as St. Valentine supported his passion with his actions, Midland Memorial Hospital is passionate about improving and elevating cardiovascular care for all.
Heart disease remains the most significant health threat to Americans and is still the leading cause of death worldwide. MMH is dedicated to furthering our efforts to improve local heart health and educating on the risks of poor cardiac health. Heart disease can be prevented in most cases when people adopt a healthy lifestyle, including not smoking, seeing their provider as scheduled, maintaining a healthy weight, controlling blood sugar and cholesterol, treating high blood pressure, and getting at least thirty minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity daily.
Midland Memorial Hospital has partnered with the American Heart Association to improve cardiac and stroke care by aligning with their Get with the Guidelines program. Get With The Guidelines® (GWTG) quality improvement programs collect data on patients admitted to Midland Memorial Hospital on specific diagnoses such as atrial fibrillation, heart failure, a stroke, heart attack, or those who experience a cardiac arrest while in the hospital. Participating GWTG hospitals receive feedback on their performance on key quality measures that are critical in the care of these patients. As part of Midland Memorial Hospital's continuing commitment to quality improvement and outstanding cardiac care, we remain the only hospital in the Permian Basin to do so. As the American Heart Association turns 100 this year, we honor their continued dedication to improving health care and look toward the future of enhanced cardiovascular care through research and innovation. Midland Memorial Hospital is honored to be a part of the first century of heart and stroke health improvement by the American Heart Association. It looks forward to the second century, serving the community of Midland and the Permian Basin. Midland Memorial Hospital holds these honors from the American Heart Association, Mission: Lifeline - NSTEMI Gold Achievement Award, and Mission: Lifeline - STEMI Receiving Center - Gold Achievement Award.
