Breast Surgeon

Sandeepa Musunuru, MD

Dr. Musunuru is a board certified general surgeon who grew up in Wisconsin. She received her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Musunuru then completed her general surgery residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. During her residency Dr. Musunuru was involved in multiple research projects and publications. After completion of her residency, she went to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina for a breast surgery fellowship. Dr. Musunuru has been in Midland since completion of her training and practices general surgery with a special interest in breast diseases, benign and malignant as well as high-risk screening/surveillance for breast cancer. She is involved in the establishment of a multidisciplinary breast center in Midland with the goal being to deliver the most up to date breast cancer care to the population of the Permian Basin. 


Oncologists

Robin Scott Akins, MD

Dr. Robin Scott Akins is board certified in radiation oncology. His Residency in Radiation Oncology was at University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Miami, FL;  Residency in Pathology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Lubbock, TX;  Internship in Internal Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, VA and his Medical Doctorate was received from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Lubbock, TX. Dr. Akins comes to Texas Oncology from San Antonio, Texas, where he served in the United States Air Force and separated with an Honorable Discharge. Having personally witnessed the struggles and turmoil of cancer in multiple family members, his approach to cancer care is multifaceted consisting of empathy, patient understanding, proactive patient focused care and patient comfort. In his free time, he enjoys water sports, snow skiing, cooking, and spending time with his family. Dr. Akins is married to Chessa Akins and they have four children. 

Phillip Chae, MD

Dr. Phillip Chae is board certified in medical oncology, hematology and internal medicine. He completed his Fellowship in Hematology/Oncology, Residency in Internal Medicine and Internship in Internal Medicine at Vidant Medical Center, East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine, Greenville, NC. He received his Medical Doctorate at St. George’s University School of Medicine, St. George’s, Grenada. Dr. Phillip Chae’s professional interests are gastrointestinal malignancies, breast cancer, melanoma, and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura. His personal interests include international travel, reading, and both collegiate and professional sports. 

Manny Mangat, MD

Dr. Manny Mangat is board certified in medical oncology and hematology. His Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine was at Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, Panjab, India and his Fellowship in Medical Oncology and Internal Medicine at Louisiana State University Health Science Center, Shreveport, LA. He received his Medical Degree from Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, Panjab, India. 

Ashutosh Rastogi, MD

Dr. Ashutosh Rastogi is board certified in medical oncology and internal medicine. His Internship and Residency was at Veterans Administration Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts and his Fellowship in Medical Oncology and Hematology at Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts.  He received his Medical Degree from M.L.B. Medical College in Jhansi, India. 


Pathologists

William C. Klingensmith, IV, MD

Dr. William Klingensmith is a board certified pathologist. He received his undergraduate degree at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York and his Medical Degree at St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada.  He also completed a surgery residency at Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia and residencies in Pathology at both SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, New York and Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.  After his residencies he completed a fellowship in Pediatric Pathology at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA and a fellowship in Surgical Pathology at University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake, UT. He joined Midland Pathologists, P.A. and DX Laboratory in 2010. He is very active in the Comprehensive Breast Committee and other interdisciplinary conferences at Midland Memorial Hospital ensuring best practices for patients. 

Matthew H. Friez, MD

Dr. Matthew Friez is a board certified pathologist.  He received his undergraduate degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas and his Medical Degree from University of Texas Houston Health Science Center. He completed a residency in Pathology at University of South Dakota in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and a fellowship in Hematopathology at Scott and White Medical Center in Temple, Texas.  He joined Midland Pathologists, P.A. and DX Laboratory in 2010. He is active in interdisciplinary conferences at Midland Memorial Hospital. 

Philip A. Conlin, MD

Dr. Phillip Conlin is a board certified pathologist with over twenty years of experience, in both  Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.  He is a graduate of Texas Tech University Health Science Center School of Medicine and completed his Pathology training at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and Texas Tech University School of Medicine. Shortly after completion of his training. Dr. Conlin joined Midland Pathologists, P.A. and DX Laboratory. He has been active in many hospital committees and served as the medical director of the Midland Memorial Hospital Laboratory for many years. He is currently the medical director at DX Laboratory and also serves as Medical Director of the laboratory at some other rural hospitals in the Permian Basin. In his spare time, Dr. Conlin enjoys reading, spending time with his family and being outdoors.
