Iovera

West Texas Orthopedics is the first in the area to offer the iovera° treatment to assist in chronic knee pain and post-op pain control for patients undergoing total knee replacement. iovera° is a non-opioid procedure utilizing cold to block peripheral nerve receptors that would cause pain. It is clinically proven to provide relief for up to ninety days after the procedure.

For patients scheduled to undergo a total knee replacement, iovera° is performed three weeks before surgery. Patients report less pain after the procedure and require less pain medication. Along with a decrease in post-operative pain, patients who have had iovera° before surgery have an increase in their functional outcomes and are overall more pleased with their recovery.

iovera° can also be utilized as an alternative for treating chronic knee pain related to osteoarthritis. It can be performed every 90 days if needed. It can be used with other treatments, such as corticosteroid injections, to control pain.

The procedure takes about 30-45 minutes and is completed in the office. It does not require an IV or any sedation. iovera° blocks the peripheral nerves without affecting function, allowing patients to drive themselves after the procedure, and there are no restrictions once iovera° has been completed.

Who can benefit from iovera°?

• People who have osteoarthritis (OA) pain in the knee
• People who are considering knee replacement surgery
• People who have been avoiding surgery
• People who are not candidates for surgery but need pain relief
• People who have received a knee replacement surgery and need pain relief
