1950

The Midland Memorial Hospital Auxiliary was founded by a group of doctor wives. Their hope was to help the community.

Midland Memorial Hospital, a four-story 75-bed facility, opened on July 11, 1950. The very first gift given to the hospital from the Auxiliary was for lobby furnishings and one child's room furnishings in the amount of $3,200. The Auxiliary held a fundraiser called Follies that incorporated singing and dancing. This led to the beginning of Summer Mummers.

Mrs. L.S. Melzer and Mrs. Ellison Tom were among the first of thousands of volunteers.

Midland Memorial Hospital's Auxiliary donated a new information desk in the main lobby for a total of $277,000. This donation became the largest ever given to date by the Auxiliary. In addition to the new information desk, the Auxiliary purchased $25,000 in audio visual equipment for the Chapel and 50 new wheelchairs, at a cost of $66,000.

The total amount given by the Auxiliary in projects since 1950 is $4,138,125.

The Auxiliary donated approximately $4,500 to Midland County Hospital District Police Department's Teddy Bear Program. The program was created by Chief Kenny Taylor and Officer Johnny Valderaz when they saw a need for children who visit Midland Memorial Hospital as a patient or as a child who has witnessed a traumatic event. The Auxiliary's donation helped purchase the initial 500 bears in colors of white, brown and pink. Each bear has a distinct ear tag, police vest with the MCHD PD patch on the back, as well as a small replica badge on the chest.

The Auxiliary donated $322,233 to the expansion of the gift shop, making this the single largest donation the Auxiliary has ever made to Midland Memorial Hospital. It brings the total amount in equipment and other projects to over $4.5 million since 1950.

During the fiscal year 2017-2018, Auxiliary volunteers worked 25,089 hours in various support areas throughout the hospital.

2019

The Auxiliary gifted Midland Memorial Hospital new Labor and Delivery beds, monitors, stretchers and a new front door totaling $250,000.

2020

The Midland Memorial Hospital Auxiliary celebrated 70 years on January 14, 2020.

Between 1950 and 2019, Auxiliary members have given 1,549,440 hours of time to the community of Midland. At a value of $12.00 an hour, that adds up to a total of $18,593,280.00. In addition to time, the Auxiliary gives gifts of equipment to the hospital. The total amount in gifts given since 1950 is $4,714,417.52.

The Auxiliary purchased 10 new wheelchairs in the amount of $14,000 for the F. Marie Hall Outpatient Center.

September 2023

2024

The Auxiliary donated over $84,000 to purchase a new birthing simulator for the Labor and Delivery department. The birthing simulator, a high-tech manikin, allows medical staff to train for various medical emergencies during delivery and additional care.
