Daisy Nurse Leader Award - Scolastica Achinike, RN,
Midland Health is proud to announce that Scolastica Achinike, RN, has been awarded the prestigious Daisy Nurse Leader Award. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.
The DAISY Award is a special honor given to extraordinary nurses for the compassionate contributions they make every day, going beyond expectations. Receiving a DAISY award means Scolastica has made a difference in the life of a patient, family, or colleague they will never forget, and she joins a worldwide community of extraordinary nurses, nursing faculty, and students.
Scolastica, with 14 years of nursing experience, has just joined the master's program at Western Governors University. She plays a vital role in the Safe Patient Handling program at Midland Memorial Hospital, working under the CAPE program. Her main objective is to ensure the successful implementation of fall prevention strategies for patients and staff, covering the entire hospital premises.
“Scola is a role model for staff and peers alike in her work ethic. She is tenacious when it comes to finding solutions and digging into the details of patient safety events, but doing so in a way that makes staff feel safe and heard. She knows how to relate to the bedside staff and the challenges that go along with providing care in a dynamic environment. Scola is well deserving of this award, and I know that she will continue to advocate for staff and patient safety. She is a servant leader who will continue to inspire others well into the future,” said Dr. Kit Bredimus, Chief Nursing Officer for Midland Memorial Hospital.
In addition to the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, the Foundation expresses gratitude to the nursing profession internationally in over 5,500 healthcare facilities and schools of nursing. For more information is available at http://DAISYfoundation.org.
