Culture of ownership lifts quality of care at MMH
In May, Midland Memorial Hospital was named a 2023 Modern Healthcare Best Places to Work. This honor is restricted to 150 organizations across the country, and only 75 of those are hospitals or insurers. The recognition of being named a Modern Healthcare Best Place to Work is a remarkable achievement that highlights our organization's commitment to creating an exceptional workplace culture and prioritizing the well-being of our employees.
In the same week, Midland Memorial was accredited a fourth time as a Pathway to Excellence Organization. The Pathway to Excellence accreditation program was developed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to recognize health care organizations that demonstrate a commitment to creating positive work environments for nurses and other health care professionals. The Pathway to Excellence designation signifies that an organization has met a set of rigorous standards related to nursing practice, work environment and patient care. To become a Pathway to Excellence organization, health care facilities must undergo a comprehensive application and survey process that demonstrates their commitment to six elements (Shared Decision-Making, Leadership, Safety and Quality, Professional Development, Evidence Based Practice and Workforce Wellbeing). This re-accreditation recognizes our efforts in providing a positive workplace culture that fosters excellence in nursing practice and promotes high-quality, patient-centered care. More impressive is that the designation window was through the pandemic, showing that we maintained our culture and high expectations through one of the worst disasters to hit our community. Only 17 organizations have four or more Pathway accreditations of the 192 organizations global honorees and Midland Memorial is proud to be the only one in the Permian Basin.
In the dynamic and competitive landscape of the health care industry, and especially in the Permian Basin, attracting and retaining top talent is crucial for organizations striving to provide exceptional care. These two recognitions are a testament to the outstanding efforts made by Midland Health leadership to cultivate an environment where employees can thrive personally and professionally. We used the feedback received during the evaluation process in previous years to identify areas for improvement, addressed concerns and implemented innovative programs to further enhance employee engagement and satisfaction. This commitment to growth and continuous improvement reinforces our position as a leading employer within the community and health care industry. These honors also signify that Midland Memorial has achieved a high level of employee satisfaction, engagement and loyalty. When nurses and healthcare workers feel respected, supported and satisfied, they are more likely to be compassionate, empathetic and motivated to care for their patients. This positive work culture and high employee morale translate into enhanced patient experiences and outcomes, ultimately raising the bar on expectations and building trust within the community.
I am honored to be part of such an amazing organization and contribute to our culture of ownership. Midland Memorial Hospital, along with the entire Midland Health system, is a great place to receive health care because of our people. The professionals who directly and indirectly care for our patients are what make Midland Memorial one of the best places to work in health care.
